With the apparent effort to lay siege to, starve and demoralize Ukrainian cities well underway - medieval barbarity with modern weapons - the West already knows the answer to the challenge of totalitarian despots in any century: compassion, ingenuity, a can-do spirit - and courage. Using airlifts, humanitarian corridors or, with or without enemy cooperation, limited humanitarian no-fly zones, ways must be found to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine and help it defend its people against naked, unprovoked and cruel aggression.
